Shea Candle Co. was birthed in my studio apartment in 2020, in Covington, KY. While most U.S. states were in quarantine, Kentucky included, I had more time for myself. I started walking 5 miles a day, getting my diet in order (eating less processed foods, and eliminating most meat, aside from fish) and asking myself,
"What do I want to do?"
That answer would later come while scrolling on IG. Very cliche, but true! I came across a persuasive post encouraging people to purchase an e-book on "starting your own candle business." At the time, I didn't have it in the budget to purchase the e-book, so YouTube university it was.
I would go on to spend weeks researching different wicks, wax types, benefits of fragrance, and the chemistry behind candle making until I knew exactly what I wanted to create.
Shea Candle Co.'s online store would make its debut, November of the same year.
The quality of our products, vending at various local markets, and word-of-mouth (to name a few) helped Shea Candle Co. expand into a brick-and-mortar space in the heart of downtown Cincinnati March of 2024.
In -store, you can find a varitety of fragrance products (handmade/hand-poured by moi) such as scented body oil, unisex parfum, reed diffusers, foaming hand soap, home sprays, car diffusers, candles and more. We are also the mini hub for Black Lit Book fair literature, and the temporary home to several local black artists. And yes, their prints/original works are for sale.
Shea Candle Co. has evolved into a one-stop-shop for Black art, Black Literature and quality fragrance products made with an abundance of love.
If you made it to this part, Thank You. I am grateful for your role in Shea Candle Co.'s evolution.
